The duo enter the cave and immediately head down into the darkness. Torch in hand, Lady Love, the dragonborn Paladin leads the way. The scent of blood fills their nostrils as they descend deeper down the well used path. The feeling of despair born of lies told permeates the walls. The rain water passes their feet making the path slippery. If not for the logs placed in the dirt, they may have lost their footing and slipped all the way down into who knows what.
At the end of the makeshift stairway, the path levels out. The torchlight reveals multiple graves placed in a seeming random fashion. The trained eye of the Paladin recognizes there may be a ritual taking place.
As they continue into this cavern, the number of graves only grows. The light spills over the one remaining human in the cavern. Ansel Admason. The cleric looks upon them with a smug smile saying, “I was hoping some non humans would come by to round out my group”. With a quick prayer and a motion of his hands, Flames issue forth from Ansel. His aim was a little too high though and although the Duo was caught flat footed, they were not hurt too much. Metcalf springs into action raising his sword, coming down hard on Ansel’s left shoulder. The blow is heavy and the blood pours freely from the wound. Still, Ansel is not finished. He looks at the clear threat that Metcalf represents and points at him and yells out one guttural word…”DIE!” Metcalf immediately clutches his chest. His face contorts in pain and he collapses to the ground before any one could react.
It is difficult to see the expression of emotion on a dragonborn’s face, but the shock at what just happened was clear on Lady Love’s face as she looks upon Metcalf’s body. With a roar born of desperation, Lady Love lunges forward. Ansel calls upon his dark God once more to protect him and a shield envelopes him. Lady Love releases her dragons breath upon the cleric Ansel. He recoils from the flames getting severe burns on his face and shoulder.
